The Wharton Club of Greater Tampa Bay
Larry Comegys, center, Wharton '78 and managing director of the Algon Group, takes part in the "State of the Market—Opportunity or Trouble?" panel held by the Wharton Club of Greater Tampa Bay on May 1.
The Wharton Club of Greater Tampa Bay held their main event for the year on May 1, their Annual Real Estate Summit: "State of the Market--Opportunity or Trouble Ahead?" Natalie Sidor, WG '07, a financial analyst with the Sembler Company, was chairperson of the event, with a committee of local alumni. The panel brought together experts from various facets of the real estate industry, including retail development, multi-family development, construction, homebuilding, residential sales and commercial financing, to provide insights and expectations on the state of the local real estate market. Craig Sher, executive chairman of the Sembler Company, moderated, with panelists Gregory W. Bryant, president and CEO of Bay Cities Bank; Larry Comegys, Wharton '78 and managing director of the Algon Group; Toni Everett, founder of the Toni Everett Company; Mark House, managing director of Beck; and Donald Phillips, managing director of Phillips Development & Realty.
The program was open to the public and attended by more than 100 local real estate professionals, including many local Wharton alumni. The event also provided attendees with networking opportunities combined with great food, wine and a view of the Tampa skyline. Sponsors included the Sembler Company, Carlton Fields and the Tampa Tribune. The Wharton Club of Greater Tampa Bay organized a similar discussion in November 2006 and plans to continue the real estate panel as a recurring event.
End of Semester BBQ at Asuka Nakahara's house
Asuka and Karen Nakahara again hosted a very casual and informal end-of-term barbeque at their home in Merion, Pa. on Saturday, April 28. About 120 current students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families, enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
A great day for a barbeque

Alumni reps gather to brainstorm
Just before the Spring Members' Meeting at the Rittenhouse Hotel, Asuka Nakahara and Joe Gyourko welcomed approximately 25 real estate alumni, from classes as far back as the mid-1980s. During their roundtable discussion in the hotel's Grand Salon, these current and former students caught up with each other and thought of ways to gather alums and network most effectively.
