Wharton MBA Real Estate Club

The backbone to student involvement with the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center is the Wharton MBA Real Estate Club. Headed by Co-Presidents John Randall and Alex Virtue, the Wharton Real Estate Club has approximately 60 first and second year MBA members and hosts a very active schedule of social, educational and professional events.

Some of the activities organized by the Club in the Fall Semester at Wharton include:

  • A series of four career panels highlighting the distinct and exciting career opportunities available to Wharton students. The first panel, held in October was entrepreneurial in its focus and explored careers available in private firms including development, asset/fund management and opportunistic investing. Next, a real estate finance and investment panel explored the more traditional careers in investment banking and principal investing as well as careers in the rapidly-expanding area of professional real estate services. Responding to the student appetite for e-Commerce issues, the third panel of the semester focused on the exciting opportunities created by the Internet explosion and how some successful entrepreneurs are capitalizing on the boom in this sector. Finally, a fourth panel was hosted by second year MBAs regarding the myriad summer job opportunities available to first year MBA Students.
  • A site visit and tour of the historic PSFS building in downtown Philadelphia: an architecturally-significant 585 room hotel redevelopment project being undertaken by Loews Hotels International.
  • Frequent midweek social hours featuring visits with members from the Wharton Real Estate Department’s faculty as well as professionals and firms representing various parts of the real estate industry.
In addition to the Club events, Wharton real estate-focused students are regular attendees of the Center’s Claude M. Ballard Executive Speaker Series. Held throughout the year, this series hosts a formidable roster of visiting professionals drawn from the Zell/Lurie Center membership, giving students a unique opportunity to interact closely with some of the most relevant minds in the business. In conjunction with the Zell/Lurie Center, the Club also publishes a student resume book in the Fall and organizes the Real Estate Mentor program, thus forming a integral link between the student body and professional sponsors and members of the Center.

As recruiting kicks-off for the first-year MBA students, the Club’s second-year members are sustaining the tradition of "mock-interviews" in the Spring semester to prepare Club members for their summer internship interview schedules. A full schedule of social, educational and professional events are also planned, making The Wharton Real Estate Club one of the most active professional clubs in the Wharton Community.

Please contact John Randall or Alex Virtue with any questions or for additional information about upcoming events of The Wharton Real Estate Club. The Real Estate Club wishes to gratefully acknowledge The Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center and the continued support of its directors and members.
