Real Estate Department Hosts Visiting Researcher
In January, The Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center hosted Jan Gerhard of the European Business School in Germany. Mr. Gerhard is a doctoral student of Professor Dr. Werner Schulte. After his visit, Mr. Gerhard wrote that it was an honor to experience one week at Wharton. "I have not seen such professionalism and superb infrastructure at an academic institution so far! Besides gathering important information for my doctoral thesis, I got a very good impression of what it takes to be the nation's No. 1 real estate department and business school."
Financial Times places Wharton as Number One in the World
The Financial Times released its annual ranking of MBA programs in January, placing Wharton in the top spot, up from last year's second-place ranking, behind Harvard, which took the second-place slot this year. The full ranking appears in the January 22nd issue of the paper and at http://www.ft.com.
Given that the FT's ranking includes MBA programs worldwide, the recognition of the School's efforts to establish a truly global presence is especially noteworthy. This recognition follows on the heels of the Business Week #1 ranking last September and last spring's #1 undergraduate program ranking in U.S. News & World Report. It reflects the high quality of research, the outstanding efforts of the faculty and the exceptional achievements of the students and alumni.
Students attend Guest Lecture Series in record Numbers

Other events sponsored by the Real Estate Center include a talk given by Martin J. Cicco, Managing Director of Merrill Lynch, who spoke to 36 students in November. Samuel Zell, Chairman of Equity Group Investments, Inc. addressed more than 225 students from the combined Real Estate Finance classes of Professors Linneman and Mayer, and members of the Real Estate Clubs. In September, more than 60 students attended a panel of real estate entrepreneurs discussing Entrepreneurial Opportunities and Challenges in Real Estate.
