Job Coaching and Job Fair
The Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center’s Placement Committee and the Wharton Real Estate Clubs initiated two innovative and very well received programs to provide an efficient meeting venue for Real Estate Center members wishing to hire the ‘cream of the crop,’ and for those students pursuing real estate career opportunities in a difficult job market. More than seventy students attended the December Job Coaching Session and we would like to thank the following real estate professionals who provided expert advice to our students. Scott Janzen, Lend Lease Real Estate Investments; Jim Mazzarelli, Liberty Property Trust; Mitchell Morgan, Morgan Properties; Hether Smith, Julien J. Studley; and Dani Spaventa, Berwind Property Group.
Nine companies participated in our highly successful January Job Fair. The companies manned informational booths and met with interested students. The excellent turnout of students kept company representatives busy all morning. Many thanks to the following company representatives for their participation: AvalonBay - Sophie Chan, James Lin; Binswanger Company - David R. Binswanger
Paul Carabasi, David Fahey; Equity Office Properties - Chris Mundy, Tom Bakke; General Growth Properties - Amy Priske, Ari Silverberg; O’Neill Properties - Kim Mahan, Craig Guers; Toll Brothers - Tracey Depedro; Vornado - Michelle Felman, Wendy Silverstein; Wells Fargo - Timothy Proctor; W.P.Commercial - Richard Previdi, Michael Gribbon.
Real Estate Club - Job Treks
The Wharton MBA Real Estate Club organized a job trek to New York in December. The students attended presentations at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co, Goldman Sachs, and Credit Suisse First Boston. Lehman Brothers kindly hosted a happy hour. The students were welcomed at J.P. Morgan by Greg Belew, a recent past-president of the MBA Real Estate Club.
In January, twenty real estate club members traveled to Washington, DC. The students met with key real estate personnel from J.E. Robert Companies, The JBG Companies, Fannie Mae, Hines and Clark Realty Company. Students learned about recent projects and deals and discussed trends in the market. The students met with Wharton alumni at these companies who reviewed the skills needed by an MBA graduate to be successful in each aspect of real estate. We extend our thanks to all the companies who participated.
If your company would like to host our students on a future job trek, please contact Janice Leberman lebermaj@wharton.upenn.edu for more information.
