MBA Real Estate Club

More than 160 students have signed up for the MBA Real Estate Club this year. Activities include a panel on Careers in Real Estate Finance, featuring Randi Kahn (Citigroup), David Rubenstein (The Rubenstein Company), Michael Mitro (KeyBank Real Estate Capital), and Dan DiLella (Berwind Property Group). The MBA and School of Design Real Estate Clubs co-hosted a panel on Historic Rehabilitation, featuring Ron Caplan (Philadelphia Management), Joel Cohn (Reznick Fedder and Silverman), Eric Kuczarski (The National Trust for Historic Preservation), and Jon Wagner, architect. In December, Christopher Mundy, Jon Cummins (Amerimar), Jean Schlemmer (General Growth Properties), and Joanne Minieri (Forest City Ratner Companies) spoke on a panel entitled Strategic Management of Real Estate Organizations.

Undergraduate Real Estate Club

Over the past year, the Wharton Undergraduate Real Estate Club has dramatically increased interest and membership in the club. As of January 2004, the membership roster included over forty undergraduate students from Wharton, the College, and Engineering. In addition to active student participation in the Spring and Fall Members Meetings, as well as other Zell-Lurie Real Estate events, the club has also facilitated its own events for students. Last Spring, the club was privileged to hear the insights of Jimmy Simon, a local real estate developer. Thanks to Co-President Eric Frankel's contact, members enjoyed a Ballard Executive lunch with Mitchell Hersh, CEO of Mack-Cali Realty Corporation, one of the largest office REITs in the country. Upcoming events include a presentation about the basics of real estate development by Mike O'Neill, the CEO of Preferred Real Estate Investments, a mid-Atlantic real estate development company.

School of Design Real Estate Club

The School of Design Real Estate Club's membership has expanded to 50 students, the largest number since its inception. Recent club events include a site visit to The Cordish Company in Baltimore, attended by students from the planning, architecture, preservation, and business schools. Beyond a focus on more interdisciplinary efforts, involvement of alumni has gained tremendous momentum. The first ever Young Alumni panel was held. Panelists from Brandywine Realty Trust, Ernst &Young, PIDC, and the Dartmouth College Real Estate Office advised students interested in a real estate career on techniques for job searching and marketing.

The Real Estate Clubs would like to thank the Zell/Lurie members and friends who have spoken on panels, served as mentors, recruited on campus and otherwise supported students interested in real estate at Penn.
