Research Sponsors Meeting
Research Sponsors and Executive Committee Members gathered in New York City on June 9 at the Penn Club to hear Dr. Robert Shiller, Stanley Resor Professor of Economics at Yale University. Dr. Shiller is one of the most well-known scholars in the world on financial markets and the housing sector. He has written widely on financial markets, macroeconomics, real estate, statistical methods, and on public attitudes, opinions, and moral judgments regarding markets. He also has advised the Federal Reserve and helped found a leading private sector company providing data and analysis of housing markets. His book Macro Markets: Creating Institutions for Managing Society's Largest Economic Risks won the 1996 Paul A. Samuelson Award from TIAA-CREF. Perhaps his most famous book on the stock market, Irrational Exuberance, won the Common Fund Prize and was a New York Times nonfiction bestseller.
Following cocktails and dinner, Schiller gave a fascinating talk on the psychology of housing bubbles. Members also had ample opportunity to ask questions.
